Farm, Pets, Garden, and Wildlife

Amazing Author Karen Jean Matsko Hood's Farm, Pets, Garden, and Wildlife Page

Author Karen Hood writes books on horses, dogs, gardening, and wildlife. Her books are informative as well as insightful on the behavior of all animals. Her gardening skills are of that of a master gardener and will educate and astound you.

On this page you will find a list of current and future books for children and adults by author Karen Jean Matsko Hood covering horses, dogs, gardening, and wildlife. Karen is working on a series of basic guide books about the different breeds of gaited horses. The Icelandic horse is also featured in children's activity and coloring books. The Hood family raises bichon frisé, cockapoo, and Icelandic sheepdogs, and Mrs. Hood is working on a series of basic guide books about these and many different breeds of dogs. Karen's interest in gardening and houseplants has spurred her to write guide books to gardening with children as well as books for raising different houseplants. Wildlife, especially bird watching, is another of Mrs. Hood's interests, which has led her to begin a series of books about bird watching in different states and another giving pointers on how to attract hummingbirds to your yard. The grizzly bear is an awesome animal that has captured Hood's attention and is the subject of still another of her books about nature.

For added fun, Karen Hood has T-shirts and other gifts with animal themes available.

A Novel

Come and experience this summer of changes with the loveable Stedman girls. Serious older sister Nichole must come to terms with her bitterness against her absentee father who has been gone for over a year as well as find a way to help her over-worked mother Debbie survive the struggle of raising two girls by herself. Fun-loving and less careful younger sister Rebecca often unintentionally finds herself in a bind when her sister isn’t around to look out for her. Although very different, Nichole and Rebecca find common ground through their shared love of riding their regal Icelandic horses Lysa and Tina. They also bond through their desire to help their mother, and they think of creative ideas to help her with a difficult project at her job with an architecture and design firm. Finally, things seem to be looking up for the struggling Stedman family. Nichole wins a medal in the horseback riding competition at the State Fair, but it is wrenched from her hands by a stickler judge who claims that Nichole’s medal was won fraudulently. To top it all off, Nichole and Rebecca’s father, Allan, makes reappearance in their lives after a year of silence. What does he really want, and can Debbie and the girls ever forgive him? Find out in this unforgettable novel about the joys and struggles of growing up by budding novelist Karen Jean Matsko Hood.
